3rd, if you're only counting "serious" suggestions.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

My suggestion is obviously the best choice for a plethora of reasons. Let's get that thread to the top of the page!

we look to be in 3rd with the Renault 5, is that not serious enough?

I love the Renault 5 Turbo, it's an amazingly Jalop worthy car. I also love the R32.

The reason I suggested the Skyline is because I think it is a more commonly known car, even among enthusiasts and Jalops. Also, it's likely an easier car to find in good shape than a Renault 5 and I believe will have wider appeal (read journalist marketability).

Really any car that can be imported once the 25 year limit hits is a great choice. However, given that that 25 year limit is reaching the point when Japanese sports cars were in their heyday I thought it made the most sense to go with the Skyline. There are going to be a ton of people who will want to start importing desirable JDM cars that were previously unattainable.

If he was going to import a Euro car, it'd have to be an RS2 Avant. :D

Also, at my count you were (and it looks like still are) below 3rd. I don't mean to discredit your suggestion as not serious. I was mainly referring to the Murano. lol :)

Both Doug and myself will likely have RS2's on the same boat over. Been waiting an awful long time for that to happen. I think we decided that they should not be the same color either :)

Not at all trying to be a dink, I get the marketability of it, but the Skyline has also had alot of bad press and connotations. Not that I subscribe to them, but I know it exists. I was at an auction a few years back where there were 2 that literally got taken off the auction floor and sealed by the feds for investigation.

My own opinion and mostly because the only asian cars I like are Land Cruiser diesels and the 4wd stuff, I think the R32 is just boring above the engineering. That is all I can say, but I havent spent much time around them so I cant say how it would strike me seeing it in the flesh

I'm hoping he goes with that 07 DB9 manual coupe. But I guess a skyline wouldn't be horrible, but it would be boring as shit to watch/listen to in videos and it would get old much quicker than the Ferrari. Another Italian would also be boring and a letdown, unless it was a bonkers Miura, Countach or Diablo. The Aston would give him just enough exclusivity without going into the hey look at me realm of fancypants car ownership.

haha yup. there are 2 ways to look at it, the way the page displays when clicking on the article, or after clicking all. If you click all replies then you are in 3rd, if you just go to the article there is the popcorn post, another, then the Citroen, then the 5. Ah well, we will see. Jalopnik is getting some clicks today though!

I love all cars, but Japanese cars tend to be my favorites. I've gotten to be around an R32 in person in high school for a fair while (a certain Arizona senator's son went to my high school and brought his to our car show), and they are amazing in person.

the ones at the auction were in fairly tough shape, enough so they just hid under the dust. This was the worst of the bunch though and the only one that was legal to be in the states, so the only one sold http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/feature…

Oh wow, that is rough.

Like all of us, I spend a lot of time shopping cars online. Much of that time is spent on foreign sites/auction listing looking at all sorts of Japanese and Euro only goodness. There are lots of great examples of R32 Skylines out there for very good prices. Although Doug would likely need to go to Canada or Japan.

If you creep on this link and like the japanese stuff, he had a bit of a hard on for 323's and GTX's (it was all one private collection). I went for all the mercedes diesel stuff. Bought a 5 speed w123 wagon and a Volvo turbo diesel wagon http://www.auctionsamerica.com/events/all-lot…

I love 323 GTXs. Those can already be found in the states though, they're just a very tough find. I thought it would be better to source a car previously made out of unubtanium. haha

That is awesome.

I'd love a 323 GTX to rally. Probably my 3rd choice for a dream rally car behind a Celica AllTrac and an old 911.

I know there are 1 or 2 Mazda 323 GTX rally cars for sale in the US. You just have to know the right people ;-).

A guy I knew in AZ that rallied used to rally a 323 GTX. They're definitely out there, it just takes a lot of digging. I love those cars though.

Kinja'd!!!

There's a guy in Wisconsin that goes to Sno*Drift regularly that has one. People on Club Protege lust over these things but the guys that are serious are almost entirely rally guys.

Yeah, I don't think I've heard any import guys talk about them. It's always rally guys.
